deHavilland DH.106 Comet 4
A crowd gathers to witness the deHavilland Comet at Melbourne Essendon Airport in 1961. At this time Essendon was being abandoned by international carriers because of restrictions arising from damage to the runways being done by the new international jets. Melbourne did not become a full international destination until the opening of Tullamarine Airport in 1970. These spectators are on the terrace of the relatively new International Terminal which would be turned over to TAA as its domestic terminal.
