Douglas Company
DC-8 Super 61 Rollout March 1966

Douglas opted to stretch the DC-8 air frame that had debuted in 1959, calling these variants the Super 60 Series. The Series 61 was the more extreme of the ‘stretched’ DC-8s in order to maximise the payload the aircraft could carry. The first Super 61 was rolled out of the Douglas plant in March 1966.
