BOAC – British Overseas Airways Corporation
Bristol 175 Britannia 312
The elegant design style of the Britannia did not help an aircraft besieged by engineering problems and manufacturing delays. BOAC, the launch customer, planned to utilize the turbo-prop Britannia on its medium and long-range services during the 1950s, before the new Comet 4 (and the 707 and DC-8) became available. In the end it was 1957 before it became operational.
