deHavilland Aircraft Company
Promotional Image of a DH.114 Heron
deHavilland developed a number of smaller propeller aircraft that found a market as short-haul commuter airliners or corporate VIP craft. The first flight of the four-engined DH.114 Heron was in 1950. It had been developed from the earlier two-engined DH.104 Dove. The first airline to fly the Heron was New Zealand National Airways Corporation. Problems soon arose particularly with the lack of power to weight. Later versions overcame some of these defects. This promotional image depicts a Heron operating from a remote airfield in the Middle East.
