Shannon Airport, Ireland 1940s
Pan American Lockheed L.49 Constellation Night Departure
Shannon Airport in Ireland began operating as a land-plane link with the trans-Atlantic flying boat base at Foynes. In 1945 a Pan American Douglas DC-4 inaugurated international services across the Atlantic. The long runway at Shannon enabled fully loaded aircraft to take off for Gander in north America. In this scene a Pan Am Lockheed L.49 Constellation is preparing for a night departure from Shannon in the late 1940s.
