American Airlines
Boeing 727-23 and Ford Trimotor, 1964
Following its success with the Boeing 707 American ordered the Boeing 727 to operate its shorter-haul flights to smaller airports. On its launch in 1964 American staged this publicity image of the new 727-23 with another three engined aircraft, the Ford Trimotor, which entered service in 1926. By the time the jet age dawned in the late 1950s three-engined passenger aircraft were relatively unknown.
