Air France
deHavilland DH.106 Comet 1A
When it first went into service in 1952 the Comet was a triumph for British engineering. Air France, UAT and BOAC were the first operators. Unfortunately, within a year three Comets crashed disastrously and the rest were withdrawn from service. Air France never operated Comets again even after the fault was traced to metal fatigue and the vastly superior Comet 4 was developed.
