Ansett Flying Boat Services, 1950s
Short S.25 Sandringham Flying Boat
Ansett took over Barrier Reef Airways following World War II, renaming it Ansett Flying Boat Services. Its main aircraft was the Short S.25 Sandringham, a modified version of the wartime Short Sunderland. The services to Great Barrier Reef island resorts were gradually displaced by land-based aircraft. By the 1970s AFBS was operating two venerable Sandringhams on a single route: Sydney-Lord Howe Island. This Art Print shows an S.25 taxying at the Rose Bay Flying Boat Base, Sydney, in the 1950s.
