British Overseas Airways Corporation – BOAC
deHavilland DH.106 Comet
The deHavilland Comet was intended to be the flagship of British aviation technology providing jet powered passenger transport almost a decade before it would appear from US manufacturers. Unfortunately, the early optimism was quickly dashed when the Comets began crashing disastrously leading to their withdrawal from service and many years of research that finally pinpointed the fault as metal fatigue. This image shows the Comet at its most heroic in early service with BOAC.
