At this time these two aircraft, plus the Lockheed L.1049G Super Constellation, were the mainstay of the Qantas fleet. The Electras operated shorter-range services to New Zealand, Manila, Hong Kong and Tokyo while the 707s flew the Kangaroo Route to London via the Middle East and the Southern Cross Route to London via New York.
