The Boeing 707-420 series was basically the same as the 707-320, the only difference being the Rolls Royce fan jet engines that replaced the original Pratt & Whitney power plants. Lufthansa put the first of the 37 420s into service in March 1960, followed by BOAC, Air-India, El Al and Varig.
