In 1938 Qantas Empire Airways commenced Short Empire Flying Boat services between Australia and the UK. The airlines advertising centred on the prestige of travelling by air and the timing of nine days compared with 5-6 weeks by ship. ‘Cooee’ is depicted making a dramatic departure from the Rose Bay Flying Boat Base on Sydney Harbour.
